Description

These Sweet Heat Smashed Potatoes are a delightful twist on traditional roasted potatoes, featuring a perfect balance of sweetness and heat. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with flavor, these smashed potatoes make a fantastic side dish or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes:

  • 1½ pounds baby potatoes

Seasoning:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce (such as sriracha or your favorite chili sauce)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Garnish:

  • Chopped fresh parsley or green onions for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cook the potatoes: Boil the baby potatoes in a large pot for 15–20 minutes until fork-tender. Drain and cool slightly.
  3. Smash the potatoes: Transfer the potatoes to the baking sheet and gently flatten each one with the bottom of a glass or measuring cup.
  4. Prepare the seasoning: In a small bowl, combine olive oil, honey, hot sauce, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Coat the potatoes: Brush or spoon the seasoning mixture over the smashed potatoes.
  6. Bake: Bake for 20–25 minutes until crispy and golden brown.
  7. Garnish and serve: Garnish with parsley or green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, broil for the last 2–3 minutes.
  • Adjust the heat level by adding more or less hot sauce.
  • Pair with grilled meats or enjoy as a bold appetizer.
