Description

A simple and flavorful sautéed cabbage recipe that brings out the natural sweetness of cabbage with a hint of smoked paprika and garlic. Perfect as a quick side dish for any meal, this sautéed cabbage is tender, slightly caramelized, and packed with comforting flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • 1 medium head green cabbage (cored & sliced into thin strips)
  • 1 medium onion (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)

Fats & Oils

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Spices & Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt & pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prep the cabbage and onion: Slice the cabbage thinly after removing the core, and chop the onion into small pieces to prepare for sautéing.
  2. Sauté the onion: Heat butter and olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and cook for about 3 minutes until softened.
  3. Add and cook the cabbage: Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet. Use two spoons or tongs to toss and stir frequently. Continue cooking for 10-15 minutes until the cabbage is tender and has reduced in volume.
  4. Add paprika and garlic: Stir in the smoked paprika and minced garlic. Cook for another 2 minutes, allowing some browning for additional flavor. Reduce heat if browning occurs too quickly.
  5. Season and serve: Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve the sautéed cabbage immediately while warm.

Notes

  • For a vegan version, replace butter with additional olive oil or a plant-based margarine.
  • Adjust the cooking time for softer or crunchier cabbage based on preference.
  • Smoked paprika adds a subtle smoky flavor; regular paprika can be used as a substitute but will alter the taste slightly.
  • Stir frequently to prevent burning and ensure even cooking.
