Ingredients
Scale
Protein
- 8 ounces shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 8 ounces flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
Rice and Vegetables
- 2 cups cooked jasmine rice (preferably day-old)
- 1 cup frozen peas and carrots, thawed
- 3 green onions, sliced
Seasonings and Oils
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Cook the Steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced flank steak, season with salt and black pepper, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until browned. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
- Cook the Shrimp: In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil, then add the shrimp. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp and set aside with the steak.
- Sauté Aromatics and Vegetables: Push any remaining oil to the center of the pan and add the butter, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds to 1 minute. Add the thawed peas and carrots and stir-fry for 2 minutes to warm through.
- Scramble the Eggs: Push the vegetables to one side of the pan and pour the beaten eggs into the empty space. Scramble the eggs gently until they are set but still moist.
- Add Rice and Sauces: Add the cooked jasmine rice to the pan, breaking up any clumps with your spatula. Drizzle the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sesame oil evenly over the rice. Stir everything together thoroughly so the rice is evenly coated with the sauces.
- Combine and Heat Through: Return the cooked steak and shrimp back to the pan. Toss everything together to combine and heat the proteins through evenly.
- Finish and Serve: Stir in the sliced green onions and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if needed. Serve the fried rice hot for a satisfying meal.
Notes
- Use cold, day-old jasmine rice to prevent the rice from clumping and ensure a better texture.
- Substitute shrimp and steak with chicken, tofu, or other preferred proteins.
- Add extra vegetables such as bell peppers or broccoli for more color and nutrition.
- For a spicy kick, add a splash of chili sauce or crushed red pepper flakes while cooking.
