Description

A simple and flavorful lean ground beef recipe that cooks quickly on the stovetop. Perfect for incorporating into tacos, pastas, rice bowls, or salads, this dish uses lean beef for a healthier option without sacrificing taste, complemented by sautéed onions, garlic, and optional smoky or spicy seasonings.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 pound lean ground beef (90% or higher)

Vegetables

  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Oils & Spices

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika or chili powder (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the skillet: Warm a large skillet over medium heat. Add the olive oil and allow it to heat for about 30 seconds to prepare for sautéing.
  2. Sauté the aromatics: Add the finely diced onions to the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for an additional 30 seconds to release their flavors.
  3. Add the ground beef: Push the onions and garlic to one side of the pan. Introduce the ground beef and break it up using a wooden spoon or meat chopper to ensure even cooking.
  4. Season the beef: Combine the ground beef with the sautéed onions and garlic. Add salt, black pepper, and paprika or chili powder if using. Stir thoroughly to distribute the seasonings evenly.
  5. Cook the beef through: Continue cooking for 6–8 minutes, stirring occasionally until the beef is browned and cooked fully. If there is excess liquid, drain it from the skillet.
  6. Finalize seasoning: Taste the beef mixture and adjust the seasoning if needed. Remove the skillet from heat.
  7. Serve or store: Use the cooked lean ground beef immediately in your favorite dishes such as tacos, pasta, rice bowls, or salads. Alternatively, let it cool and store for later use.

Notes

  • For a spicier flavor, increase the amount of chili powder or add crushed red pepper flakes.
  • Drain excess fat after cooking if you prefer a leaner dish.
  • This ground beef can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
  • Ensure the beef reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for safe consumption.
  • Use fresh garlic and onions for the best flavor impact.
