Description

Sausage Sweet Potatoes Honey Garlic is a delicious and comforting dish combining savory sausage, caramelized sweet potatoes, and a rich honey garlic sauce. This recipe creates a perfect balance of flavors that makes for an easy weeknight dinner with a delightful aroma. It’s versatile, allowing for vegetable additions or sausage alternatives to suit various dietary preferences.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb sausage (Italian or breakfast sausage, casings removed)
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ingredients: Peel and cube the sweet potatoes into bite-sized pieces. Mince the garlic cloves finely. Remove sausage from casings if necessary and break into small chunks.
  2. Cook the sausage: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage pieces and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook the sweet potatoes: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the cubed sweet potatoes and cook, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften and caramelize, about 10-12 minutes.
  4. Add garlic and honey: Add the minced garlic to the sweet potatoes and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Drizzle honey over the sweet potatoes and garlic, stirring to coat evenly. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the honey to caramelize and create a sticky glaze.
  5. Combine everything: Return the cooked sausage to the skillet and mix it thoroughly with the sweet potatoes and honey garlic sauce. Cook together for an additional 2 minutes to blend flavors. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve: Remove from heat and optionally garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve warm with a green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.

Notes

  • You can swap sausage for plant-based alternatives for a vegetarian-friendly version.
  • Add bell peppers or Brussels sprouts during the sweet potato cooking stage for extra nutrients and color.
  • Adjust honey quantity for preferred sweetness level.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed broccoli or a fresh green salad.
  • Ensure sweet potatoes are cut evenly to cook uniformly.
