Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 1 sheet of puff pastry or flatbread
Toppings
- 2 pears, thinly sliced
- 4 oz (120g) Gorgonzola cheese, crumbled
- 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
- 1/4 cup (30g) chopped walnuts
- A handful of arugula leaves
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Freshly cracked black pepper
Optional substitutions
- Swap Gorgonzola with goat cheese or blue cheese
- Use pecans instead of walnuts
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the flatbread.
- Prepare Puff Pastry or Flatbread Base: Lightly flour your work surface and roll out the puff pastry sheet to your desired thickness. Place the rolled puff pastry on a baking sheet. If using flatbread instead, place it directly onto the baking sheet without rolling.
- Apply Olive Oil: Evenly drizzle 1 tablespoon of olive oil over the surface of the puff pastry or flatbread base to enhance flavor and help with browning during baking.
- Arrange Pear Slices: Slice the pears thinly and arrange them overlapping across the entire surface of the base for full coverage and balanced sweetness.
- Add Gorgonzola Cheese: Sprinkle the crumbled 4 oz (120g) of Gorgonzola cheese evenly over the layered pear slices for creamy, tangy flavor contrast.
- Bake Flatbread: Place the prepared flatbread in the preheated oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until the crust is golden and crispy and the cheese is slightly melted.
- Add Final Toppings: Once baked, remove the flatbread from the oven and immediately drizzle 1/4 cup (60ml) of honey over the top. Then sprinkle the chopped 1/4 cup (30g) walnuts, fresh arugula leaves, and freshly cracked black pepper evenly over the flatbread to finish.
Notes
- Ensure pears are thinly sliced to allow even cooking and to blend well with other flavors.
- Use a light drizzle of olive oil to help crisp the base and enhance flavors without making it soggy.
- Gorgonzola can be substituted with goat cheese or blue cheese for milder or different flavor profiles.
- Walnuts can be replaced with pecans for a different crunchy texture.
- Serve the flatbread immediately after adding the fresh toppings for best taste and texture.
