Description

This delicious Pan-Fried Cheese Potato Bread is a crispy, cheesy snack made from mashed potatoes and stuffed with melted mozzarella. Perfectly golden and tender, these savory patties combine the comfort of mashed potatoes with the indulgence of gooey cheese. Ideal for a quick snack or appetizer, they’re simple to prepare using basic ingredients and cooked on the stovetop for a crispy exterior and melty center.

Ingredients

Scale

Potato Dough

  • 2 medium russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Filling & Garnish

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onions (optional)

For Frying

  • 1 tablespoon butter or oil

Instructions

  1. Boil the Potatoes: Place the peeled and cubed potatoes in salted water. Boil until they are fork-tender, about 10 to 12 minutes. Drain the potatoes thoroughly and mash them until smooth. Allow them to cool slightly before proceeding.
  2. Make the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with flour, salt, ground black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix everything together until a soft dough forms.
  3. Prepare Patties with Cheese Filling: Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. Flatten each portion into a circle. Place 2 to 3 tablespoons of shredded mozzarella cheese in the center of each circle. Fold the dough edges over the cheese and seal tightly to form a filled patty. Gently flatten each patty to approximately 1/2-inch thickness.
  4. Pan-Fry the Patties: Heat the butter or oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on each side until they become golden brown and crispy. Ensure the cheese inside melts thoroughly.
  5. Serve: Serve the cheese potato breads warm. Optionally, garnish with chopped green onions for extra flavor and freshness.

Notes

  • You can substitute mozzarella with any melty cheese such as cheddar or gouda for variety.
  • Add chopped herbs like parsley or cilantro, or even cooked bacon bits into the potato dough for extra flavor.
  • These patties are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in a skillet to restore crispiness.
