Scale
Ingredients
- 1 loaf French bread or sourdough boule (round loaf)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 1/2 cups sour cream
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup chopped cooked ham
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp hot sauce (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is ready for baking when the dip is prepared.
- Mix Dip Ingredients: In a medium bowl, thoroughly combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese, chopped ham, green onions, garlic powder, hot sauce (if using), salt, and black pepper until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
- Prepare Bread Bowl: Slice off the top of the bread loaf and carefully hollow out the center, leaving approximately 1 inch of bread around the edges to create a sturdy bowl for the dip.
- Fill Bread Bowl: Spoon the prepared dip mixture into the hollowed-out bread bowl and place the bread top back on to cover the dip.
- Wrap and Bake: Wrap the entire loaf tightly in aluminum foil to retain heat and moisture, then bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes until the dip is hot, bubbly, and melty.
- Serve Warm: Remove from the oven, unwrap the foil, and serve warm with the bread pieces scooped from inside the loaf or with additional crackers and vegetables for dipping.
Notes
- The dip mixture can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated until ready to bake.
- For extra spice, add diced jalapeños or increase the amount of hot sauce.
- This dip is also delicious baked in a baking dish instead of a bread bowl.
