Scale
Guacamole Ingredients
- 4 large avocados
- ½ small red onion (about ⅓ cup)
- 1 jalapeño pepper
- 2-3 Roma tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic (about 3 cloves)
- 4 Tablespoons fresh lime juice
- ½ teaspoon fine sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- ¼ cup fresh chopped cilantro
Instructions
- Soak the Onion: Slice the onion into thick slices and add them to a large bowl of cold water. Allow the onion to soak to mellow out its sharp flavor while preparing the rest of the ingredients.
- Mash the Avocados: Peel and pit the avocados, then add them to a large mixing bowl. Use a fork or pastry cutter to mash the avocados to a creamy or chunky consistency according to your preference.
- Prepare Jalapeño and Tomatoes: Dice the jalapeño and tomatoes. Be sure to remove the inner membranes and seeds from the jalapeño to control the heat level.
- Combine Ingredients: Drain the soaked onion slices and dice them finely. Add the diced onion, jalapeño, tomatoes, minced garlic, fresh lime juice, sea salt, and black pepper to the mashed avocado bowl. Stir gently to combine all the flavors.
- Add Cilantro and Serve: Fold in the fresh chopped cilantro, mixing just until distributed evenly. Serve the guacamole immediately for the best flavor and freshness.
Notes
- For a smoother guacamole, mash the avocados thoroughly, or leave some chunks for texture.
- Adjust the amount of jalapeño to taste depending on your heat preference.
- Use fresh limes for the lime juice to ensure bright, zesty flavor.
- To prevent browning, cover the guacamole tightly with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface before refrigerating.
- This guacamole is best enjoyed fresh but can be refrigerated for up to 1 day.
