Description
These Homemade Butterfingers are a delightful twist on the classic candy bar, using candy corn and creamy peanut butter to create a sweet, crunchy treat. Coated optionally in melted chocolate, these bite-sized bars are easy to make with minimal ingredients and are perfect for parties or a homemade sweet snack.
Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 16 oz candy corn
- 1 cup creamy peanut butter (not natural)
Optional Coating
- 10–12 oz melting chocolate (milk or dark)
Instructions
- Melting the Candy Corn: Place the candy corn in a microwave-safe bowl and heat on 50% power in 30-second intervals. Stir thoroughly after each interval to prevent the candy from burning or seizing, continuing this process for about 5 minutes until the candy corn is fully melted and smooth.
- Mixing in Peanut Butter: Quickly stir in the creamy peanut butter using gloves or utensils since the mixture will be hot and sticky. Mix until fully combined for a smooth, consistent texture.
- Setting the Base: Spread the candy corn and peanut butter mixture into a 9×13-inch pan lined with wax paper. Press it firmly and evenly flat, then allow it to cool completely at room temperature to set properly.
- Cutting the Bars: Once cooled, slice the set mixture into 24 bite-sized bars or squares using a sharp knife.
- Optional Chocolate Coating: Melt the chocolate of your choice until smooth. Dip each bar into the melted chocolate, ensuring full coverage, then place them on parchment paper to set. If necessary, chill the bars to speed up the setting process of the chocolate coating.
Notes
- Use creamy peanut butter, not natural, to ensure smooth mixing and better texture.
- Be patient during microwave melting to avoid burning or seizing the candy corn.
- If you prefer a nut-free option, substitute peanut butter with an alternative like sunflower seed butter, though the flavor will differ.
- The chocolate coating is optional but adds a rich finish to the bars.
- Store the bars in an airtight container at room temperature or refrigerate if coated with chocolate to maintain freshness.
