Description

Greek Frappe is a refreshing and frothy iced coffee drink made with instant coffee, cold water, and ice. Originating from Greece, it is easy to prepare, customizable with sugar and milk, and perfect for a quick energizing treat during warm weather.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons instant coffee (preferably Nescafé)
  • 1/4 cup cold water (for shaking)
  • 3/4 cup cold water or milk (or a mix)
  • 23 ice cubes
  • Sugar to taste (optional)
  • Evaporated milk or cream (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Coffee Mixture: In a shaker, jar with a tight lid, or frother, combine the instant coffee, 1/4 cup cold water, and sugar if using.
  2. Shake to Froth: Shake vigorously for about 30 seconds until a thick, foamy layer forms at the top of the coffee mixture.
  3. Fill Glass: Fill a tall glass with 2–3 ice cubes to chill the drink and create a refreshing texture.
  4. Pour Foam: Pour the thick coffee foam from the shaker into the glass over the ice cubes.
  5. Add Liquid: Top the glass with the remaining 3/4 cup cold water, milk, or a mixture of both for creaminess and volume.
  6. Mix Gently: Stir gently to combine the coffee foam with the cold liquid without losing the frothiness.
  7. Add Cream (Optional): For a richer taste, add a splash of evaporated milk or cream on top if desired.
  8. Serve: Serve immediately with a straw to enjoy the distinctive foamy iced coffee experience.

Notes

  • Adjust sugar level based on preference: “sketos” means no sugar, “metrios” means 1–2 teaspoons, and “glykos” means sweetened with 2 or more teaspoons of sugar.
  • If you prefer less shaking, use a handheld milk frother or blender to create the foam.
  • Use instant coffee labeled for cold preparations for best frothing results.
  • Experiment with milk types such as skim, whole, or plant-based milk for different textures and flavors.
