Ingredients
- 12 wonton wrappers
- Vegetable oil (for frying, about 2 inches deep)
- Salt (to taste)
- Optional: garlic powder or Chinese five spice (for seasoning)
Instructions
- Prepare Wonton Strips: Stack the wonton wrappers and use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut them into 1/2-inch wide strips, ensuring even sizing for uniform frying.
- Heat Oil: Pour about 2 inches of vegetable oil into a deep skillet or pot and heat over medium heat until the oil reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to maintain proper frying temperature.
- Fry Wonton Strips: Carefully drop a few wonton strips at a time into the hot oil, avoiding overcrowding which could lower the oil temperature and lead to soggy strips.
- Cook Until Crispy: Fry the strips for 30 to 60 seconds, flipping once with a slotted spoon or tongs to ensure even golden brown color and crispiness.
- Drain and Season: Remove the fried wonton strips with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel–lined plate to drain excess oil. While still warm, sprinkle with salt and optional seasonings like garlic powder or Chinese five spice.
- Cool and Serve: Let the strips cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed as a crunchy snack or used as a topping for soups, salads, or dipping sauces.
Notes
- For extra flavor, sprinkle with garlic powder, chili powder, or Chinese five spice immediately after frying.
- These wonton strips make a crunchy topping perfect for enhancing soups, salads, or dipping sauces.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days to maintain crispiness.
