Description

This Easy Tuna Melt recipe is a quick and delicious sandwich perfect for a satisfying lunch or light dinner. Creamy tuna salad combined with melted cheddar or Swiss cheese on toasted bread creates a comforting classic that’s ready in just under 15 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Tuna Salad

  • 1 (5 oz) can tuna, drained
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon diced celery (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Sandwich

  • 2 slices of bread (white, whole wheat, or sourdough)
  • 2 slices of cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Tuna Salad: In a bowl, combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, diced celery if using, Dijon mustard if using, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are blended evenly.
  2. Assemble Sandwich: Spread the tuna mixture evenly over one slice of bread. Place the cheese slices on top of the tuna mixture, then cover with the second slice of bread to form a sandwich.
  3. Heat Skillet and Melt Butter: Place a skillet over medium heat and add the butter. Allow it to melt completely to coat the pan for toasting the sandwich.
  4. Cook Sandwich: Place the sandwich in the hot skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, or until the bread turns golden brown and the cheese inside has melted.
  5. Serve: Remove the sandwich from the skillet, optionally cut it in half, and serve warm for the best taste and texture.

Notes

  • You can omit the celery and Dijon mustard if you prefer a simpler flavor.
  • Use your choice of bread—white, whole wheat, or sourdough—all work well.
  • Cheddar provides a sharper taste, while Swiss offers a milder, nuttier flavor.
  • For a crispier sandwich, press it down gently while cooking.
  • Serve with a side salad or chips for a complete meal.
