Ingredients
Scale
Tofu and Marinade
- 1 block firm tofu
- 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
Rice and Avocado Mixture
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 avocado
Sauce and Seasoning
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
Instructions
- Press the Tofu: Wrap the firm tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture, which helps achieve a crispier texture during cooking.
- Marinate Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into cubes and marinate in 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce for at least 30 minutes to absorb rich, savory flavors.
- Cook Tofu: Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat, then add the marinated tofu cubes and cook until crispy on all sides. Once cooked, remove and set aside.
- Prepare Sauce Mix: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame seeds, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to create a spicy, nutty drizzle.
- Mash Avocado and Mix with Rice: In a separate bowl, mash the avocado with a fork and gently mix it with the cooked rice until well combined and creamy.
- Assemble Stacks: Using a mold or cup, layer the avocado-rice mixture and crispy tofu alternately to form a neat stack.
- Drizzle Sauce: Pour the prepared soy sauce mixture over the assembled stacks for added flavor and a touch of heat.
- Serve: Serve immediately while tofu is still crispy and enjoy this flavorful, wholesome dish.
Notes
- Pressing the tofu thoroughly is key to getting it crispy and preventing sogginess.
- For extra flavor, marinate the tofu longer, up to a few hours.
- Use freshly cooked rice for the best texture; day-old rice can be too dry.
- Adjust red pepper flakes according to your preferred spice level.
- Serve with steamed or sautéed vegetables for a more complete meal.
