Description

A delicious and healthy Crispy Teriyaki Tofu and Avocado Rice Stack featuring crispy tofu marinated in teriyaki sauce, layered with creamy avocado mixed into rice, and finished with a flavorful sesame-soy drizzle. This plant-based dish offers a perfect blend of textures and savory, slightly spicy flavors, ideal for a light lunch or dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Tofu and Marinade

  • 1 block firm tofu
  • 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil

Rice and Avocado Mixture

  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 1 avocado

Sauce and Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Press the Tofu: Wrap the firm tofu block in a clean kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture, which helps achieve a crispier texture during cooking.
  2. Marinate Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu into cubes and marinate in 1/2 cup teriyaki sauce for at least 30 minutes to absorb rich, savory flavors.
  3. Cook Tofu: Heat sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat, then add the marinated tofu cubes and cook until crispy on all sides. Once cooked, remove and set aside.
  4. Prepare Sauce Mix: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame seeds, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to create a spicy, nutty drizzle.
  5. Mash Avocado and Mix with Rice: In a separate bowl, mash the avocado with a fork and gently mix it with the cooked rice until well combined and creamy.
  6. Assemble Stacks: Using a mold or cup, layer the avocado-rice mixture and crispy tofu alternately to form a neat stack.
  7. Drizzle Sauce: Pour the prepared soy sauce mixture over the assembled stacks for added flavor and a touch of heat.
  8. Serve: Serve immediately while tofu is still crispy and enjoy this flavorful, wholesome dish.

Notes

  • Pressing the tofu thoroughly is key to getting it crispy and preventing sogginess.
  • For extra flavor, marinate the tofu longer, up to a few hours.
  • Use freshly cooked rice for the best texture; day-old rice can be too dry.
  • Adjust red pepper flakes according to your preferred spice level.
  • Serve with steamed or sautéed vegetables for a more complete meal.
