Description

A delicious recipe for Crispy Honey-Glazed Shrimp featuring perfectly fried shrimp coated in a sweet and tangy honey glaze, garnished with sesame seeds and green onions. This dish combines crunchy texture and flavorful glaze for a delightful appetizer or main course.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Honey Glaze

  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch + 2 teaspoons water (slurry)

Garnish

  • Sesame seeds (optional)
  • Chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep the shrimp and coating mixtures: Pat shrimp dry with paper towels. In one bowl, whisk together cornstarch, flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Place beaten eggs in a separate bowl.
  2. Coat the shrimp: Dip each shrimp into the flour mixture, then into the egg, then back into the flour mixture, pressing lightly to ensure an even, thick coating.
  3. Fry the shrimp: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet or deep pan over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Fry shrimp in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Prepare the honey glaze: In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
  5. Thicken the glaze: Stir in the cornstarch slurry and continue simmering for about 2 minutes until the glaze thickens slightly.
  6. Toss shrimp in glaze: Immediately toss the crispy shrimp in the honey glaze until all pieces are well coated.
  7. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired. Serve immediately to enjoy maximum crispiness.

Notes

  • Make sure the oil is hot enough to get a crispy coating; use a thermometer if possible.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan when frying to maintain oil temperature and crispiness.
  • The glaze can be adjusted in sweetness or acidity by varying honey and vinegar amounts.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free soy sauce and substitute flour accordingly.
  • This dish is best served immediately to enjoy the crispy texture.
