Description

Cowboy Butter is a flavorful, versatile butter sauce packed with fresh herbs, garlic, and a hint of tangy lemon. Perfect as a topping for grilled meats, seafood, or vegetables, this no-cook recipe blends butter with Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and smoked paprika for a rich, savory spread that enhances any dish.

Ingredients

Scale

Butter Base

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

Flavorings

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice + zest from 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/2 tablespoon chopped fresh thyme
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt or kosher salt
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt Butter: Cut the butter into pats and place them in a small bowl. Microwave on half power in short intervals until completely melted, taking care to prevent splatters.
  2. Mix Ingredients: Add the lemon juice and zest, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, chopped parsley, chopped thyme, minced garlic, onion powder, smoked paprika, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper to the melted butter. Whisk or stir thoroughly until the mixture is fully combined and smooth.
  3. Adjust Flavor and Serve: Taste the Cowboy Butter and adjust seasoning if necessary. Allow the butter to cool slightly to room temperature so it thickens, or serve warm, or chilled straight from the fridge according to preference.

Notes

  • You can substitute sea salt with kosher salt for a milder saltiness.
  • The butter can be served warm, at room temperature, or cold, depending on your desired texture and application.
  • This butter pairs wonderfully with grilled steaks, chicken, seafood, or roasted vegetables.
  • For best freshness, store the Cowboy Butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator and use within a week.
