Description

This Cheeseburger Pie is a delicious, easy-to-make American comfort dish combining seasoned ground beef, onions, and cheddar cheese topped with a Bisquick batter. Baked to golden perfection, it’s a perfect family-friendly main course that can be customized with your favorite toppings like ketchup, mustard, and pickles.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Topping and Batter

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup Bisquick or all-purpose baking mix
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs

Optional Toppings

  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • Chopped pickles

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a 9-inch pie dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook Beef and Onions: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until the beef is fully browned and the onion is soft. Drain any excess fat to keep the pie from being greasy. Season the meat mixture with salt and black pepper for flavor.
  3. Assemble Meat Layer: Spread the cooked beef and onion mixture evenly across the bottom of the prepared pie dish. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the beef layer for a cheesy finish.
  4. Prepare Batter: In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick baking mix, milk, and eggs until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
  5. Pour Batter and Bake: Pour the batter evenly over the meat and cheese layers. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Rest and Serve: Remove the pie from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Top individual servings with ketchup, mustard, and chopped pickles if desired for extra flavor.

Notes

  • For enhanced flavor, mix ketchup and mustard directly into the beef while cooking.
  • Optional additions include crumbled bacon, diced tomatoes, or substituting pepper jack cheese to add a spicy kick.
