Ingredients
Scale
Tapioca Pearls
- 1/2 cup tapioca pearls (boba)
- 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar (for cooking boba)
Drink Mixture
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar syrup (for serving)
- 1 cup whole milk or oat milk
- 1/2 cup brewed black tea
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
Instructions
- Cook Tapioca Pearls: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan. Add tapioca pearls and stir gently to prevent sticking. Cook according to package instructions, usually about 5–7 minutes, until the pearls become soft and chewy. Drain the pearls and rinse under cold water to stop cooking.
- Sugar Coat the Pearls: Transfer the cooked tapioca pearls to a bowl and mix with 2 tablespoons of dark brown sugar. Let them sit for 10 minutes to absorb the sweetness and develop rich flavor.
- Prepare the Glass: Drizzle 1 tablespoon of brown sugar syrup along the inner walls of each serving glass to create the signature tiger stripes effect, adding visual appeal and extra sweetness.
- Assemble the Drink: Add half of the cooked sugar-coated tapioca pearls to each glass. Fill each glass with ice cubes to chill the drink thoroughly. Pour in 1/4 cup of brewed black tea, then top with 1/2 cup of milk.
- Mix and Serve: Stir gently to combine all ingredients evenly. Taste and add more brown sugar syrup if desired for extra sweetness. Serve with a wide straw for easy sipping and enjoying the chewy bubbles.
Notes
- Use oat milk or almond milk as a dairy-free alternative to whole milk.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar syrup according to preference.
- For a stronger tea flavor, prepare double-strength black tea or steep the tea leaves longer before brewing.
