Ingredients
Scale
Beef Rolls
- 1 lb (450g) thinly sliced beef (sirloin, flank steak, or rib-eye)
- 8 oz (225g) enoki mushrooms, trimmed
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
- 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, finely grated (optional)
For Cooking and Garnish
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil (for cooking)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish, optional)
- Chopped green onions (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Beef and Mushrooms: Lay the thinly sliced beef flat on a clean surface. Take small bunches of enoki mushrooms (about 10-15 mushrooms per roll) and place them at one end of each beef slice.
- Roll the beef: Roll the beef tightly around the enoki mushrooms, securing them with toothpicks if necessary. Repeat until all beef slices are rolled up.
- Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, oyster sauce (if using), rice vinegar, sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the sauce is well mixed.
- Heat the pan: Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat and add the vegetable oil.
- Sear the beef rolls: Add the beef rolls to the pan, searing on all sides by turning occasionally, for about 5-6 minutes or until the beef is cooked through and browned. If the beef browns too fast, reduce the heat to medium.
- Add the sauce: Pour the prepared sauce over the cooked beef rolls in the skillet. Let it simmer for 1-2 minutes while spooning the sauce over the rolls as it thickens slightly.
- Serve: Remove the beef rolls from the skillet and discard any toothpicks used. Plate the rolls.
- Garnish and enjoy: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions if desired. Serve hot with steamed rice or vegetables for a complete meal.
Notes
- Use thinly sliced beef such as sirloin, flank steak, or rib-eye for ease of rolling and tenderness.
- If you don’t have oyster sauce, you can omit it or substitute with hoisin sauce for a different flavor.
- Use fresh enoki mushrooms, trimming the base to remove any tough ends.
- Keep an eye on the heat while searing so the beef doesn’t burn and remains juicy.
- These rolls can be prepared ahead and cooked just before serving.
- For a gluten-free version, substitute soy sauce with tamari.
