For the apple filling:
- 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (about 5–6 medium, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the crisp topping:
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cut into small cubes)
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare baking dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×9-inch or similar-sized baking dish.
- Prepare apple filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
- Make crisp topping: In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add cold butter cubes and mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples.
- Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- You can add chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping for extra crunch.
