Description

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (about 56 medium, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

For the crisp topping:

  • 3/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cut into small cubes)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×9-inch or similar-sized baking dish.
  2. Prepare apple filling: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
  3. Make crisp topping: In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add cold butter cubes and mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apples.
  4. Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes until apples are tender and topping is golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
