Ingredients
Scale
Bagel Dough
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 cup self-rising flour (or 1 cup all-purpose flour + 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder + ¼ teaspoon salt)
- 1 scoop unflavored or vanilla protein powder (about 25g)
Toppings (Optional)
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds
- Everything bagel seasoning
- Poppy seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: In a medium bowl, combine Greek yogurt, self-rising flour, and protein powder until a sticky dough forms. Lightly flour your work surface, then knead the dough for 2 to 3 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Shape the bagels: Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope approximately 6–8 inches long, then pinch the ends together firmly to form the classic bagel shape.
- Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 350°F and allow it to preheat while you prepare the bagels for cooking.
- Add toppings: Brush the tops of each bagel with the beaten egg to help toppings adhere and promote browning. Sprinkle with desired toppings such as sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning, or poppy seeds.
- Cook the bagels: Place the bagels in a single layer in the air fryer basket, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Air fry for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the bagels turn golden brown and are cooked through.
- Cool and serve: Remove bagels from the air fryer and let them cool slightly on a wire rack before slicing and enjoying them fresh.
Notes
- For a dairy-free option, substitute plain Greek yogurt with a plant-based yogurt that has similar thickness and consistency.
- These bagels are best enjoyed fresh on the day of baking, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- For longer storage, freeze the bagels and thaw them at room temperature before reheating.
